Continuing:
-
Minuteman Bikeway Extension -
Mark told us that the Selectmen felt it necessary to have a public meeting regarding the Minuteman extension. Holly will contact the Town Manager to secure the Multipurpose Meeting room for Jan. 17, Jan. 24, or Jan. 31 with the latter being our first choice. Mark will let Joel know if he can get Joel on the Agenda for the Dec. 18 meeting of the Selectmen to talk about the public meeting. We feel the best argument in favor of the extension is to connect West Bedford with the center of town where currently there are not sidewalks. The trail is not appropriate for small children to use it as it is.
Joel reported that Day Care centers are exempted from the requirement regarding bicycle parking. However, the Day Care center proposed for Concord Road has indicated that they will provide access to the trail behind their property. We do not yet know about bicycle parking at the Blue Ribbon Strip Mall.
-
Transportation Committee -
This Committee exists and has both a chair and members. Mark has no idea why they have not yet met. Mark did tell us about a state reimbursement program for bicycle racks on town property. We started our list with the ball fields, the skateboard park, the Town Hall. Joel will further consider ideas and add this information if he does succeed in getting on the agenda for the Selectmen's meeting Dec. 18. If not Dec. 18, perhaps Jan. 2.
-
Boardwalk, Washington St. to conservation land -
Bob brought a good map of the area. He is continuing to work on this project with the Trails Committee.
-
Annual Meeting with Rich Warrington -
The annual meeting with Rich Warrington should be Jan. 10 or Feb.14. but as Joel had failed to contact him, Holly said she would do it.
-
Police Accident Report -
Bob reported two accidents both involving autos and bicycles on the Great Road. He feels that a letter should be written to the Bedford Minuteman urging cyclists to look on the internet at bikebedford.org to find maps with safe routes to the business district of town. They should be urged not to use the Great Road. Holly said she would do this and email us each a copy before sending it in. She will send it as a Friend of the Bikeway.
New:
Next monthly meeting - Jan. 10, Town Center, 7:30pm.
Meeting adjourned 8:35pm.
Bedford Friends of the Minuteman Bikeway
-
PMC Kids Bedford -
Amy Mason informed us of the next annual Kids ride for Pan Mass rides which will be Saturday June 16. She would like to add a teen ride of perhaps 15 miles. She would prefer the ride to be mostly through the woods and does not necessarily have to be completely within Bedford. We suggested a route to circumnavigate Hanscom Field.
-
Annual Meeting -
Annual Meeting will be April 11.
-
Treasurers Report -
No treasurer's report as Don is home not well.
New:
Meeting adjourned 8:45pm.
